What does insurance cover?

Many extended health and employee benefit plans cover counselling services with a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) through the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA). Because every plan is different, it’s best to check directly with your provider to see if sessions with a CCC are included in your coverage.

If you have coverage, you’ll pay for your session up front and then submit the receipt I provide to your insurance company for reimbursement. The receipt will include my professional designation and registration details to make the process easier.

If you’re not sure what your plan covers, a good place to start is by asking:

  • Does my plan cover counselling with a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC)?

  • How much coverage do I have per year?

  • Do I need a doctor’s note or referral?

Executive & Life Coaching
Executive and life coaching are not typically covered by insurance, as they fall outside of clinical mental health services. However, some clients are able to claim coaching under professional development, wellness, or workplace benefits depending on their employer’s policies. It’s always a good idea to check with your organization to see what may be available.
